S.B.K. Unlimited Update: Cedar & Chamfer Details

cedar.jpgScott Kriscenski, S.B.K. Unlimited: We've been plugging away at siding and trim on the garage project. The siding is being done in red cedar shingles. These particular ones are primed #1 red cedar R&R's, or rebutted and resquared.

The corners are being woven or "laced". This is a tedious process where the overlap is alternated each course and the opposing side is shaved to lie flat against the other. I also opted to shingle into the garage door opening rather than put a flat casing around it. I think this gives it more depth and will jump out once our garage door is installed.

Cindy Chabot (www.chabotengineering.com) specified the dimensions and fasteners for some brackets to support the flying gable ends. These were made from 4x4 douglas fir. These were given a 3/4" decorative edge cut or "chamfer" and then sanded, primed and bolted up. We also started getting in our stairwell in the rear which is being constructed of 6x6 pressure treated timbers.
